Hello, I''ve been searching on the web and have found a few techniques for creating metal using noise and motion blur. I''ve been getting some neat effects with just noise and blur, but I''m having trouble creating metal panels that look dirty / sooty. Does anyone have any tricks / techniques / tutorial advice for creating metal panels? Thx! -------------------- Just waiting for the mothership...

Why don''t you try what you are doing, and then create another image with a transparent background, and draw some crude black or brown blobs, or parallel streaks in the image. Then use blur to the new image. Now select the image and copy it. "Paste as Layer" into your metal panel image.

Or, just create a new layer for your metal panel image, and apply the above technique.

One method is to blend a "dirty" map, like concrete, with your main map. Another method is to create custom brushes. I just learned about this techinique from another message board.

I always find that the cloud filter is my best friend when creating metal. By using various opacity + contrast + colour settings I can create some cool effects, just play around a bit, you''ll find a technique and style that works for you.
