lightmap generation

Hi everyone. I hope, someone can help me with this problem: I got a scene in 3dsmax to export for a game engine. Although the engine supports lightmap generation, i would prefer to render the (static) shadow right in 3dsmax and make an texture with the shadows and lightmaps already applied to them. It is no problem to do this with planar maps, but I''m kind of unsure how to do this with spherical, or cylindrical maps... Any ideas?

good question. i am curious about this also.
I haven''t actually used it for this, but a free plugin called Luminare can generate light maps.
