Wrong Position When Converting .3DS->.X

I received a .3DS file (created in 3D Studio MAX 4)from an artist and it looks fine in MAX as well as 3D Exploration (and every other modeling package we tried it in) but when I try to convert it to a .X file using CONV3DS.EXE or 3D Exploration, the positions of the objects in the file are all wrong. Any idea why this may be happening? Thanks, Kory Bricker InteracDEV Software www.interacdevsoftware.com

this is due to transforms being wrong on model segments.
this can be corrected by loading back into max, select an object then click on the "utility" tab (last tab, the 1st is create)
then goto "XFORM" select, the "RESET XFORM"

go back to "Modify" tab and collapse the stack (which now has Xform modifier in it)
once done this will solve the problem.
oh, and if the segments are linked, be sure to unlink them first!

Hope this helps.
