Alternatives to DirectPlay?

What are the options for crossplatform alternatives to DirectPlay other than SDL_net?

SDL_net does not even count. It providse a very simplistic and close to the metal abstraction of raw sockets. It isn't anything like DirectPlay, which is halfway to being a full network engine.

I haven't used it, but RakNet looks pretty sweet. Hattan reviewed it, and as of the 12th of this month, it's been free even for shareware and commercial licenses.
